Richard Lucas
Helping a thought leader showcase his work
2023
Richard Lucas is a business and social entrepreneur with over 750 employees in technology companies in Europe and the USA.
The client’s activities centre around entrepreneurship, the promotion of entrepreneurship, TED.com and TEDx, alumni activation, event hosting, public speaking and leadership.
I was comissioned to improve his web presence, create a blog to host his latest pieces, and the back catalogue - and to develop a personal brand.
The Task
Work with the client to develop a personal brand which would be used to create a web presence. Richard Lucas had a large digital footprint, but it was not centralised around a site - which had downsides when it came to directing potential clients or associates to a single digital portfolio.
I had to create the brand, and site - whilst coaching the client on Squarespace to allow him to manage the site solo, and post new blog pieces and updates.
The Solution
Due to his preference for writing, the optimal solution was a blog focussed site - with a broadsheet style background, black text in a typewriter-style font, and a formal - yet open-ended template.
A back catalogue of past writing was created, with tags and categories being used to allow for better internal search, and the ‘About’ page was able to act as a digital CV - with optimised SEO throughout the site.
The design process was very informal - relying on client workshops and feedback to understand needs, goals, and points for improvement.
