Creating a seamless EV purchase experience

Dealer Comparison Tool is an industry-first EV-only market comparison engine - focussing on connecting first-time electric vehicle buyers to expert dealers.

There are plenty of comparison tools - be it for insurance, banking services, or car sales. What is missing is a tool that leads people who are interested in buying (or leasing) an electric vehicle, but do not know where to go.

This tool bridges the gap between the desire to purchase, and the knowledge required to make a successful EV transition. By connecting potential buyers directly to online-based, EV-only brokers - the user is able to get a personalised experience and the help they need to find a perfect car, charger, and more.

The Task

Create a tool that connects potential first-time EV buyers to partner dealers.

Understand who the buyers are, what their pain points and desires are, and how cars are purchased.

Bridge the gap between desire and purchase by resolving common issues associated with buying an electric car. Create an interactive experience that showcases brokers and their offerings, whilst maintaining the ability to analyse the user journey in Google Analytics once the tool is live.

The Solution

Using research from focus groups and previous advertising, I created user profiles, and desire maps. Several product solutions were workshopped with wireframing, low-fidelity prototypes and feedback.

The major problem faced was that a first time EV buyer would not know which car or broker to choose - leading to analysis paralysis. This tool resolves the issue by sorting brokers based on the car’s condition, and the type of purchase (cash, lease, etc). The user does not have to decide on the type or make, or cost of the car before being connected to a dealer.

At the heart of the product was a submenu that allowed the user to pick how they wanted to make their purchase - with various suitable brokers listed nearside in order of relevance. Loading screens acted as separate URLs - allowing for journey tracking between interactions.

6 major brokers were onboarded once the beta was live, with more in the works.
