Electric Car Count
Bringing automotive data out in the open
2020- 2024
Electric Car Count is a freely available source of UK EV market data, with expert analysis - tailored to startups and industry.
There is a pressing need to accelerate the UK’s transition away from fossil fuel powered vehicles - but this change is not a given, or natural state of affairs. One of the major roadblocks was the lack of freely accessible data, useful to researchers, startups, and NGOs.
By visualising and cataloguing the data hidden within APIs and papers - Electric Car Count provides an accurate account of the number of cars on UK’s roads - filtered by fuel type, make, and model.
The Task
Create a page to show monthly data, with a supporting catalogue of past releases.
Create a means for users to sign up to receive updates, and mailings - with appropriate templates.
Develop an interactive bulletin to intuitively display market data.
The Solution
Product-specific branding was developed to distinguish the Car Count from other products on the site - with its own page displaying embedded monthly charts that would update automatically.
Later, the product was integrated with the home page employing a prominent ticker to attract users to gain more information. The bulletin was developed in Looker Studio, with mailings and signup forms from Civi CRM.
The product reached a professional audience of over 1k core users, and 3k additional monthly users.
